A high-level meeting was held between the managements of Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), Government of Sindh, and the Aga Khan University – Institute for Educational Development to explore avenues of collaboration in development and promotion of education particularly teacher education, assessment systems, research and policy initiatives and value-addition at various levels of both the organizations.
The SEF delegation, led by the Managing Director Mr. Gahanwer Ali Laghari and Deputy Managing Director Ms. Shahpara Rizvi, included representatives from the Training & Assessment Unit, Research & Publications Unit, and Advocacy & Communication Unit. The AKU-IED leadership was represented by Professor Dr. Farid Panjwani, Dean of the Institute for Educational Development, and Dr. Sajid Ali, Director of Research & Publications, along with other senior faculty members.
Professor Dr. Panjwani warmly welcomed the SEF team and shared an overview of AKU-IED’s role as a catalyst for educational change. A detailed presentation highlighting the institute’s contributions towards teacher training, educational policy influence, and reform initiatives in underserved areas was shared. The meeting also featured a documentary on Government Higher Secondary School Choher, Malir Karachi, which was adopted by one of the sister organizations of AKU-IED, and is one of the success stories of transformation of a government school in a marginalized area showcasing an ideal public-private partnership for innovative approaches to improving teaching-learning and community participation in school improvement.
The Deputy Managing Director SEF, Ms. Rizvi, presented SEF’s focus areas in training, assessment, and research, emphasizing the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening systems that ensure access to free and quality education across Sindh underscoring a potential for joint ventures for both the organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, the Managing Director SEF, Mr. Gahanwer Ali Laghari, underlined the importance of fostering partnerships with academic institutions such as AKU-IED. “This formal introductory meeting is a step towards strengthening ties between SEF and AKU-IED to make valuable and relevant contributions to improving the quality of education in Sindh,” he stated.
The two leaders agreed to evolve a strategic partnership between the two institutions by way of a potential Memorandum of Understanding with an aim to work towards the betterment of education in Sindh by exploring areas of mutual interests including teacher education, assessment systems, research & development, policy dialogues, joint conferences and seminars, and mutually beneficial and value-addition initiatives.
The meeting concluded with a symbolic tree-plantation by the SEF Managing Director, signifying a commitment to sustainable and long-term collaboration for educational reform.
