With the support of the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), Government of Sindh, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), implemented the Youth Education, Employment and Empowerment Project (YEEEP) successfully and trained 350 students across diverse trades, including Information Technology, Textile, Business Entrepreneurship, and other market-driven skills, in collaboration with TUSDEC.
Out of the 350 participants, 198 were female and 152 male a remarkable 57% female participation. Many of these young women not only completed the training but also excelled in their respective trades, earning top positions and certifications during the YEEEP closing ceremony.
The event was attended by Managing Director SEF, Mr Gahanwer Ali Laghari, accompanied by senior management officials including Deputy Managing Director, Ms. Shahpara Rizvi, Director Program & Planning, Mr. Nisar Banbhan, Deputy Directors Mr. Mukhtiar Chandio, Ms. Musarat Paljio, and Mr. Junaid Ismail, and Assistant Director, Mr. Sanjay Mathrani.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Moin Zaidi, Private Sector Partnerships Specialist for YEEEP, shared an overview of the projectโs impact. He highlighted that โthe 57% female participation and their determination to establish their own ventures after training is a true reflection of success.โ He added that the initiative focused primarily on Hyderabad and Karachi, empowering youth to align their skills with emerging economic opportunities.
Deputy Managing Director SEF, Ms. Shahpara Rizvi, emphasized the importance of skill-based learning, stating, โWe are living in the era of skills. The mainstream industry is in dire need of trained professionals, and it is encouraging to see such strong female participation. However, continued learning and innovation are key to staying relevant in the evolving job market.โ
Addressing the participants, Managing Director SEF, Mr. Gahanwer Ali Laghari, reaffirmed the Government of Sindhโs commitment to youth empowerment. โThe Government is not only promoting literacy but also opening new avenues of opportunity. Recent initiatives such as providing scooties to working women are part of this broader vision of empowerment. I encourage all trainees especially young women to continue their professional journey and connect with the market. SEF and other government institutions stand ready to support your aspirations.โ
He further noted that while the progress is commendable, โthere is still room for improvement. YEEEP should engage in collaborative discussions during the planning and scrutiny process to identify and design market-driven trades that can create meaningful employment opportunities for youth across Sindh. Workers from sectors such as automobile workshops can be further engaged and upskilled to enhance productivity and innovation.โ
The ceremony concluded with a project exhibition showcasing student-led initiatives, followed by a certificate distribution recognizing the achievements of all participants. The event reflected the collective commitment of SEF, UNDP, and TUSDEC to nurturing a skilled, confident, and self-reliant generation ready to contribute to Sindhโs socio-economic growth.
